Director of Operations – Data Centre (Singapore)

  • BW Digital Campus at Nongsa Digital Park, including a next generation data centre of up to 80MW capacity and a full suite of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions combining connectivity, data storage and computing power for the development of AI and ML applications.
  • Other upcoming data centre and subsea cable projects in APAC and ANZ region.

Based in Batam, with a satellite office in Singapore.

 

Purpose of role

The Data Center Operations Director is critical in ensuring optimal and uninterrupted operations of our data center facilities. This role involves creating, shaping and overseeing the entire operations team, managing our data center infrastructure, and ensuring all systems operate within specification for our clients.

 

In this role you will 

  • Build-up, ensure training and lead the data center operations team, overseeing all facilities management, including all disciplines involved.
  • Work together with data centre business development team to support answers to RFPs from technical and operational perspective.
  • As internal client of data centre project team, revise and supervise data centre design and construction from operability and compliance perspective to ensure design and data centre facility meet operational and client needs.
  • Manage daily operations, including incident response management, maintenance schedules, and capacity planning together with the onsite and remote operational team and NOC/SOC personnel.
  • Ensure that clients SLAs are met in all aspects.
  • Oversea and supervise small expansion and migrations projects in existing facilities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive data center management practices and compliance protocols that ensure high reliability and efficiency, to meet industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with IT departments to ensure seamless hardware deployments, network configurations, and ongoing system maintenance.
  • Supervise and ensure high level of cyber, physical and logical security requirements are met.
  • Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring that all service agreements and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Lead disaster recovery efforts and data center scalability initiatives.
  • Develop and control the operational budget, including forecasts and cost optimizations.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies for operational procedures and disaster response tactics.
  • Ensure sustainability targets are met and data centre, ISO and other certificates are obtained and sustained.
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities to team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

 

Your Profile 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, MEP Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in data center operation management, preferably at a managerial or directorial level.
  • Strong technical understanding of data center components, including electrical power, HVAC systems, Direct Liquid Cooling, and IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to finding and implementing solutions.
  • Certifications in data center management, facilities management, or IT infrastructure are advantageous.
